We are really pleased to be able to announce arrangements are now in place for patients registered at our practice to receive their COVID-19 vaccination at a new GP led vaccination service set up at Brighton Racecourse. You will be contacted by the NHS when it is your turn to receive the vaccine, and so we kindly ask you to please not contact the practice to ask about appointments.
The timing of when people who are eligible will get the vaccination depends largely on the availability of the vaccine and the priority group you are in, which is set by the national Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (an independent expert advisory committee).
The first priority group across all GP practices is our patients who are over the age of 80.
This is the next part of greatest vaccination programme ever undertaken by the NHS and, to help vaccinate people safely we will are working with other local practices to deliver it in this convenient and familiar setting.
The NHS across our local area is working extremely hard to get the vaccine to everyone who is eligible as quickly as possible and a significant number of the first priority cohorts have already received their vaccinations, and more do so every day.
This is testament to the hard work and commitment of NHS and healthcare staff.
We do ask everyone to recognise this is the largest vaccination programme ever undertaken and it will take some time to get to everyone.
We understand that there have been some enquiries about the location of the race course and we recognise some may have to travel further than others to get their vaccination.
If anyone is concerned about how they will travel safely to get a vaccine during lockdown, we can confirm that it is permissible to receive a lift from someone or use community transport providers offering this support for transport for medical appointments.
You can find information about community and non-emergency transport on the Brighton and Hove City Council website, or call the community hub on 01273 293 117.
